Passiflora caerulea – Winter-hardy passion flower with spectacular blooms

Passiflora caerulea is a beautiful climbing plant with exotic, ivory-white and bluish flowers that immediately catch the eye. This passion flower is the most well-known species and also the most suitable for our climate thanks to its excellent winter hardiness. This makes it an excellent choice for Dutch gardens, patios, or balconies.

From June to September, you can enjoy continuous blooms. On warm, sunny days, the flowers open fully, creating a striking splash of color in the garden. On cooler or darker days, the flowers remain closed – making the passion flower a true "fair-weather" bloomer.

A climber with character
Passiflora caerulea is a vigorous grower with a natural climbing habit. Give it the space and support to climb a fence, pergola, or trellis. Ideal for a sheltered, sunny spot where the plant gets plenty of light and is protected from cold east winds.

Care
Plant the passion flower in a sunny spot with well-drained soil. In winter, the plant can survive down to -10°C, especially if the root zone is well protected with mulch or a covering. Young shoots are more sensitive and may need some protection from severe frost.
